The garden got a haircut today: the Forget-Me-Nots had finally lost all their blossoms, so I disentangled them from the thyme, which is about to run rampant. Trimmed some of the very vigorous purple morning glories, which are just starting to reach into the branching wild orange honeysuckle. Pulled out the pea plants that had succumbed to mildew. Gave everything a good long drink. Admired the wine-colored sweet peas coming in next to the dusky pink Penstemon returning from last year.
Things are looking sort of spotty now: time to turn the soil some, add some compost, decide what goes in next. I seem to do better with flowers than vegetables. A few green tomatoes popped out but seem to be at a standstill.
It might have been early to harvest the zucchini above, but I couldn't resist, as several more are coming in and vying for space. I cropped some of the strange blue-purple plant to harvest more seeds; the ones that weren't yet ready to fall I spread on this dishcloth Sarah made me years ago, which I love. If I can figure out how to get a decent shot of it, it'll probably be one of the first additions to the new project slowly percolating to the surface: Lasting Craft.
Lovely!
